MLK Membership

Elberton's Annual Celebration for the Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. takes place each year on the weekend preceding the legal holiday. The celebration always includes the third Monday in January in conjunction with Saturday and Sunday prior to the holiday. We have a three-day weekend celebration. Our first observance was January 1994 with 103 entries in the MLK Parade.

The Martin Luther King Committee is now planning Elberton’s 24th Annual MLK Weekend of events. The group commenced by choosing the winning theme that will be used throughout the 2017 schedule of events. First grader, Karmen Hughes submitted the theme, “Change the World; Don’t Let the World Change You.”  Karmen will receive $100.00 for her winning entry.
